The Cabinet approved the proposal to form MOI

Blue print on scope, functional activities and the organisational set up of the proposed institute was prepared

July 1999
Bill for the setting up the MOI introduced in the parliament

August 1999
The President assents to the bill following Parliamentary approval to form MOI under The Mauritius Oceanography Institute Act, no.24 of 1999

September 1999
Five Project Officers were appointed

January 2000
The MOI board was constituted and held its first meeting on 18th January 2000

June 2000
MOI moved into its new premises in France Centre in Quatre-Bornes

February 2002
First Director of MOI appointed
